First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit

Be careful if you are planning to file an amended 2008 tax return in order to claim the 2008 First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit. It’s come to the attention of the IRS that many of these claims being submitted are in fact fraudulent. As a result, the IRS is closely examining all amended returns related to this specific credit. Save yourself from experiencing significant delay and frustration by enclosing a copy of the HUD-1 form with your amended return. This form gives the IRS the verification they need to validate the authenticity of your amended return, which enables them to process your credit with much greater speed.

  1. I sent in my taxes for 2009 aling with all infomration on the home my wife and I purchased Disbursement statement etc. The IRS recieved it by February 19, 2010. Seven weeks later I received a letter asking us for more supporting doucumentation to receive my 6,500.00 home buyer credit and it listed the things that I had already sent. 14 weeks later no one can give me an answer where things are at. This is very frustrating to keep getting IRS agents that can't answer anything aobut my return status.
